{"id":484,"date":"2014-07-21T10:53:22","date_gmt":"2014-07-21T14:53:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/?p=484"},"modified":"2015-02-14T08:18:31","modified_gmt":"2015-02-14T13:18:31","slug":"solar-heating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/2014\/07\/21\/solar-heating\/","title":{"rendered":"Solar Heating"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In my last post I mentioned that I might be getting some solar heating.\u00a0 I had checked my fan to make sure it was turning and found that it was stuck.\u00a0 A small push got it turning again.\u00a0 However my QC checks still showed signs of solar heating during the daytime.\u00a0 Then I started seeing elevated temperature readings at night as well.\u00a0 I suspected the fan bearing had seized causing the fan to get hot and be the source of the erroneous temperature readings.\u00a0 So I made some time to go outside, take the solar shield apart and see what was going on.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing I did was listen for the fan running.\u00a0 No fan was heard.\u00a0 Then I put my hand up inside the solar shield to check the fan wiring to see if it had come loose.\u00a0 My hand brushed up against something that I didn&#8217;t recognize.\u00a0 I bent down and looked up inside the solar shield to find a small wasp next.\u00a0 Luckily it appeared it be deserted, otherwise I would most likely have been stung.\u00a0 I knocked down the nest and started taking the solar shield apart.\u00a0 A few wasps flew out and i jumped back.\u00a0 When the coast was clear I carefully started opening up the solar shield and peeked inside.\u00a0 I saw a larger wasp nest and several wasps flew out toward my face.\u00a0 I backed up as fast as I could move in preparation to run away.\u00a0 I ended up falling over backwards and slightly injuring myself.\u00a0 Luckily the wasps let me escape without stinging me.\u00a0 I got a can of bug spray put of the garage and that was the end of the wasp nest.<\/p>\n<p>I was now able to complete my dis assembly and confirm that the fan had failed.\u00a0 I ordered a new fan, which took about a week to receive.\u00a0 Then I removed the old fan and wired in the replacement.\u00a0 The old fan was pretty hot when I pulled it out, so I feel pretty confident that ti was the source of my heating.\u00a0 The station appears to be working so I plan to let it run for a day or two and keep an eye on my QC checks.\u00a0 I also have a spare fan (I bought two) so I can make repairs faster when I have this problem again.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my last post I mentioned that I might be getting some solar heating.\u00a0 I had checked my fan to make sure it was turning and found that it was stuck.\u00a0 A small push got it turning again.\u00a0 However my &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/2014\/07\/21\/solar-heating\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-484","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-weather"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/484","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=484"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/484\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=484"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=484"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cloppermillweather.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=484"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
